This scheduled series of 7 weekly online live review sessions are with a SQL MCM Certified Master presenter covering topic review and Q&A time on one exam topic area per week. Each weekly set of training sessions will include demos and overviews from the relevant labs for that topic, and lists of additional resources, and live Q&A session for the preparation group.

In order to reduce impact on the student’s work day, there will be 2 sessions weekly of 2 hours online (14 total sessions) with each week’s topic focus covering one of the 7 Exam topic areas. The timing for the training sessions will be from 1 – 3 pm Pacific USA time (4 – 6 pm Eastern USA / 9 – 11 pm GMT time).

Weekly Schedule and Topic for SQL MCM sessions:

Week 1 – May 8 and 10, 2012 Recoverability and integrity

The candidate should have a thorough knowledge of SQL Server recoverability and data integrity concepts and should be able to design, implement, and troubleshoot specific scenarios. The candidate should also be able to determine an appropriate data recovery solution that minimizes disruption and data loss.

He has many years of international experience in Microsoft SQL Server database development, optimization and troubleshooting. He is an independent consultant and trainer and he spends most of his time travelling around the world either advising his many clients on how to improve performance and reliability of their databases, or sharing the lessons learned with conference and user group audiences worldwide, where he is a popular and highly rated speaker. Week 2 – May 15 and 17, 2012 Availability

The candidate should have experience with deployment and enforcement of policies and configurations. The candidate should also have experience designing, deploying, and troubleshooting maintenance strategies, monitoring solutions, build-out standards, data retention processes, and consolidation strategies based on application and business requirements.

Week 3 – May 22 and 24, 2012 Security

The candidate should be able to derive security requirements based on organizational compliance needs and requirements. The candidate should also be able to articulate and apply SQL Server security best practices, identify vulnerability scenarios, and remediate security issues.

The candidate should be able to identify performance issues and determine the appropriate solution. The candidate should also be able to distinguish root-cause issues from lower priority side effects, and evaluate diagnostic output in order to assess the health of an environment. The candidate should be familiar with capacity planning, baselining, and benchmarking techniques. The candidate should have an in-depth understanding of performance tuning and troubleshooting techniques and their effect on system resources.

Denny Cherry is an independent consultant with over a decade of experience working with platforms such as Microsoft SQL Server, Hyper-V, vSphere and Enterprise Storage solutions. Denny’s areas of technical expertise include system architecture, performance tuning, security, replication and troubleshooting. Denny currently holds several of the Microsoft Certifications related to SQL Server for versions 2000 through 2008 including the Microsoft Certified Master for SQL Server 2008 as well as being a Microsoft MVP for several years.

Week 5 – June 5 and 7, 2012 Performance

Week 6 – June 12 and 14, 2012 Developer support

The candidate should be capable of recommending appropriate schema design, query tuning, and query technology methods based on application and business requirements. The candidate should also be familiar with the various SQL Server data movement and distribution methods and be able to apply them appropriately based on application requirements.

Nicolas Husson is an independent consultant based in Los Angeles, CA. He’s been working for the past 15 years as a Solution Architect, mostly on the Microsoft platform. He specializes in SQL Server performance tuning, troubleshooting, high availability and database architecture but is also well versed in the .NET platform, Sharepoint and the Microsoft BI stack.

Nicolas holds a master degree in Electrical Engineering and started his career as an engineer at Philips Consumer Electronics, working on the first DVD RW writers, as well as what would become the blue ray technology. When he’s not ruining his eyes on a monitor, he can be found riding his bike in the San Gabriel mountains, scuba diving in the Pacific ocean or spending some quality time with his family.

Week 7 – June 19 and 21, 2012 Scalability

The candidate should be capable of defining a scalability strategy and applying appropriate technologies and features based on business or application requirements. The candidate should also understand the implications of interoperability between features and be able to identify and resolve scalability implementation issues.
